1) How I found out about Life Choices: A Life Choices representative came and spoke at my church.
2) I am interested in serving because… I became pregnant at 17 and chose to mother my child. I have a desire to tell teens about the need for sexual purity and to help young moms raise their children in the ways of the Lord.

2)
I am interested in serving because…I too was a teenager when I became pregnant my first time. I understand the shame that these young unmarried women experience because I had it hover over my life for many years. Also I understand the disappointment that it brings from family and other peers because I was raised in church.
3) A few facts about myself:  I am a mother of two children: Candice, 24, and Zach, 14. I’m a grandmother of one beautiful granddaughter who is three. Her name is Caleigh Beth.
4) Other areas of interest such as church membership, etc.: I am a licensed hair stylist, interior decorator, Life group leader at church, and I serve on other leadership committees at our church, First Assembly of God. I am a Client Advocate here at Life Choices, and I help with the MOM store.

1) How I found out about Life Choices: When my daughter’s best friend went through the WOMB program, it helped her so much I was impressed and interested in learning more.  There was an open house at the center and I went, while I was there I felt an urge to volunteer.
2) I am interested in serving because...there is such a great need for a facility like this not only to help in a crisis pregnancy, but to help these young mothers learn how to raise healthy, productive, Christ-centered next generation. One of the reasons I love Life Choices so much is a selfish one. I get to be around such Godly precious women who have enriched my life, and I enjoy going through my clients' pregnancies with them. My heart goes out to the young mothers of Life Choices, and I feel I am helping in some small way. God led me to Life Choices and has blessed me for it.
3) A few facts about myself: I was born and raised in Memphis, TN. My husband Jimmy and I recently celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. We have two beautiful daughters (beautiful inside and out) and five wonderful grandchildren. We moved to Dyersburg in 1972.
4) Other areas of interest: I enjoy scrapbooking and researching our genealogy. We both enjoy water sports and traveling. I was a member of an Evangelical Methodist church for over thirty years where I was the treasurer. Our little church closed and I am now looking for a new church home. I am enjoying visiting friends' and families' churches until I find the one that is right for me. I have received a blessing from each one.

RIGHT CHOICES OF WEST TENNESSEE

Right Choices of West Tennessee is a federally funded character development project for teens in grades 6—12.   Using an abstinence/healthy relationship curriculum approved by the Department of Education, Right Choices educates students within  the public  school  systems about waiting to have sex until marriage as well as the benefits of a stable and faithful marriage.

This program is  not a  ministry,  and complies  with  the  legislative definition of  abstinence education in Section 510 of Title V of the Social Security Act. Right Choices of West Tennessee is funded by the CBAE (Community-Based Abstinence Education) Grant through the  US  Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families.

When the program was launched  in the 2003—2004 school year,  only  68% of  students served by  Right Choices  were  committed  to  abstaining from sexual activity until marriage,  compared to 80% of students making that commitment in 2006-2007.  Additionally,  in 2003—2004,  77% of  those  students  indicated an understanding of the social,  psychological,  and health  gains to  be realized  by abstaining from premarital sexual activity, compared to 89% in 2006—2007. To learn more about Right Choices of West Tennessee, please visit http://www.rightchoicestn.com

More than half of the Right Choices staff either has or is currently working towards a Master’s Degree.

Spotlight on Laura Busch, Board Chair
It is quite surprising to find myself Chairman of the Board of Life Choices. I began serving as a volunteer counselor one afternoon a week. I have always had a compassionate heart for young women who find themselves in a crisis pregnancy situation because 29 years ago I was in that situation. Growing up in a small town in Missouri, I had no one to confide in. It was a frightening time, and I went most of my pregnancy without seeking medical care. When I couldn't hide the inevitable any longer, Kent and I confided in our parents and with their love and support, we made it throught. I know I was very blessed, but I could have benefited even more from an organization such as Life Choices.

I am so thankful Dyersburg has a crisis pregnancy center and as a board member, I see how important this organization is to our community. I am asked many times to pray for an abortion-minded client, or a baby that has been born and has medical problems. We are fortunate to have such a caring well-trained staff of employees, volunteers, and board members that dedicate so much time and energy to this needed ministry.

I am married to Kent, and we have two grown children, Brian and Melissa. We moved to Dyersburg in 1991 when my husband took a job as an emergency room physician. After working in the ER several years, he opened his own practice, Dyersburg Skin Clinic. I work from home and manage the finances. I am a member of First United Methodist Church and volunteer as a children's teacher for Community Bible Study. I also serve on the boards of Northwest Safeline and Caterbury Place.
